UltraGambler earns a commission if you sign up through some links on this page. It never changes our ratings. 18+. How we make money
Quick answer: The Mines casino game is a 5×5 grid of 25 tiles with hidden gems and mines. You choose how many mines to hide (1 to 20 in Spribe’s version; other versions differ), then reveal tiles one at a time. Every gem raises your multiplier; hit a mine and you lose the bet. Cash out whenever you like. The best-known version, Mines by Spribe, has a 97% RTP and is provably fair. No pattern, “hack” or predictor can tell you where the mines are.

How do you play Mines?
- Choose your stake.
- Pick the number of mines. More mines means higher multipliers but bigger risk.
- Click tiles to reveal them. Each gem raises your multiplier.
- Cash out at any time to lock in your win.
- If you reveal a mine, the round ends and you lose the stake.
Mines odds and multipliers
Because the grid is just 25 tiles, the odds are easy to work out. The table below shows your chance of surviving each pick with 3 mines, and the fair multiplier at a 97% RTP. Real games may round these slightly.
| Gems revealed (3 mines) | Chance of getting there | Multiplier |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 88.0% | 1.10× |
| 2 | 77.0% | 1.26× |
| 3 | 67.0% | 1.45× |
| 4 | 57.8% | 1.68× |
| 5 | 49.6% | 1.96× |
With 10 mines, the first pick is safe only 60% of the time, but 5 gems in a row pays around 17×. That chance is just 5.7%. Whatever you choose, the 3% house edge stays the same.
| Mines on the grid | Chance the first tile is safe |
|---|---|
| 1 mine | 96% safe |
| 3 mines | 88% safe |
| 5 mines | 80% safe |
| 10 mines | 60% safe |
How do you work out the odds in Mines yourself?
Each round is a draw from 25 tiles without putting any back. With m mines there are 25 − m safe tiles. The chance of finding k gems in a row is the number of ways to pick k tiles from the safe ones, divided by the number of ways to pick k tiles from all 25:
Chance = C(25 − m, k) ÷ C(25, k)
Worked example with 5 mines and 3 picks: there are 20 safe tiles. C(20, 3) = 1,140 and C(25, 3) = 2,300, so the chance is 1,140 ÷ 2,300 = 49.6%. Pick by pick gives the same answer: 20/25 × 19/24 × 18/23 = 0.496. A fair game would pay 1 ÷ 0.496 = 2.02×. A game with a 97% RTP pays 0.97 ÷ 0.496 = 1.96×. That small gap is the house edge.
| Mines and picks | Chance of success | Fair multiplier | Multiplier at 97% RTP |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 mine, 3 picks | 88.0% | 1.14× | 1.10× |
| 5 mines, 3 picks | 49.6% | 2.02× | 1.96× |
| 5 mines, 5 picks | 29.2% | 3.43× | 3.32× |
| 10 mines, 3 picks | 19.8% | 5.05× | 4.90× |
| 10 mines, 5 picks | 5.7% | 17.69× | 17.16× |
| 20 mines, 1 pick | 20.0% | 5.00× | 4.85× |
| 20 mines, 2 picks | 3.3% | 30.00× | 29.10× |
Our 4.85× figure for one pick with 20 mines matches the example payout Casino Guru gives for Spribe’s Mines, which suggests its multipliers are set at 97% of the fair price. Because every multiplier is cut by the same 3%, your expected return is 97% of your stake whatever you choose. 100 rounds at €1 cost about €3 on average, with 1 mine or with 20.
Is there a Mines strategy that works?
- Pick your risk level: few mines give frequent small wins; many mines give rare big wins. Neither changes the house edge.
- Set a cash-out target before the round and stick to it.
- Keep stakes small compared with your budget, and stop when you hit your limit.
- Use the demo to understand the odds before playing for real money.
- Ignore patterns: mine positions are random every round, so tile choice doesn’t matter.
Mines game hacks, predictors and “scanners” are scams
Mines is provably fair: the mine positions are fixed by a server seed and your client seed before you click anything, and the result can be checked afterwards. A “hack scanner”, signal bot or pattern generator cannot see the hidden seed. Many of these apps steal logins or ask for payment. How we checked this
- Spribe’s Mines uses a 5×5 grid, lets you choose up to 20 mines, has a 97% RTP and caps a win at 10,000 per bet: SlotCatalog and Casino Guru.
- Spribe’s Mines is provably fair and has auto play, and Aviator also has a 97% RTP: SoftGamings and SlotCatalog.
- Our maths: every chance and multiplier in the odds tables is our own count using C(25 − m, k) ÷ C(25, k), with the 97% multiplier worked out as 0.97 ÷ chance.
Last checked: 13 October 2026, when we worked out the Mines odds and multipliers ourselves and confirmed the remaining figures with two or more independent sources.
