Quick answer: online table games are casino games such as blackjack, roulette, baccarat, craps and casino poker, played against software or a live dealer. The cheapest to play are blackjack with basic strategy (a house edge of about 0.5% to 0.7%) and the baccarat Banker bet (1.06%), while European roulette costs 2.70% and American roulette 5.26%. Software tables can be played free in demo mode; live tables are real money only.

What are online table games?

Online table games are the casino games that are played on a table layout rather than on reels: card games like blackjack and baccarat, wheel games like roulette, dice games like craps and sic bo, and poker games played against the house. You play them in two ways:

  • Software (RNG) tables: a random number generator deals the cards or spins the wheel. Rounds are fast, stakes can start very low, and most can be played free with demo credits.
  • Live dealer tables: a real dealer is streamed from a studio and you bet on screen. They play at real stakes only. See our live dealer casinos guide for those.

This page covers the software versions: how each game works, which bet is cheapest, and where to try it free.

Online table games compared: best bet and house edge

The house edge is what the casino keeps on average from every $100 you bet. Here is the best standard bet in each game, assuming you play it the right way.

How to play the main casino table games

Blackjack

You and the dealer each get cards, and you try to finish closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. You choose to hit, stand, double or split, so your decisions change the odds more than in any other table game. Learn the moves with our blackjack basic strategy chart, and pick tables that pay 3:2 for a blackjack: 6:5 tables cost you far more.

Roulette

You bet on where the ball lands: a single number, a colour, odd or even, or groups of numbers. A European wheel has 37 pockets with one zero; an American wheel adds a double zero, which almost doubles the house edge. Work out the payout and edge of any bet in our roulette calculator, or try the free Sapphire Roulette and Premium Roulette demos, both single-zero wheels.

Baccarat

You bet on the Banker hand, the Player hand or a Tie, and the cards are drawn by fixed rules, so there are no decisions after you bet. That makes it the easiest table game to learn. Banker is the cheapest bet even after the 5% commission; the Tie is one of the most expensive bets on any table. Our baccarat strategy guide explains why betting systems do not change this.

Craps

Players bet on the outcome of two dice. The Pass Line bet wins on a 7 or 11 on the first roll and loses on 2, 3 or 12; any other number becomes the point, which must be rolled again before a 7. The table has dozens of other bets, and most of them cost far more than the Pass Line. Our craps guide lists them all.

Casino Hold’em

A Texas Hold’em game played against the dealer instead of other players. You place an Ante, then you and the dealer each get two cards and three community cards are dealt. You either fold, losing the Ante, or call with a bet twice the size of the Ante. Two more community cards follow and the best five-card hands are compared. The dealer needs a pair of 4s or better to qualify; if the dealer does not qualify, your Call bet is returned.

Other poker-based table games

Several table games use poker hands but are played against the house. Three Card Poker is the quickest, Ultimate Texas Hold’em lets you raise up to four times your Ante, and Let It Ride lets you pull bets back. Pai Gow Poker is slow, with many pushes, and Caribbean Stud Poker has a free demo on our site. Check our poker hand rankings first if you are new to poker.

Sic Bo and other table games

Sic Bo is a three-dice game where Big and Small are the sensible bets. 3 Card Rummy scores hands by low points, and Blackjack Switch lets you swap cards between two hands in return for a lower blackjack payout.

Can you play table games online for free?

Yes: software table games can be played free with demo credits, but live dealer tables cannot. These table game demos are on our site, with no sign-up:

Demo winnings are not real, and a demo plays the same rules as the real-money game, so it is the best place to practise a strategy. For slots and other games, search our free casino games library.

What to check before you join an online table

  1. The payout rules. Blackjack should pay 3:2 for a blackjack, roulette should have a single zero, and the baccarat Banker commission should be 5%.
  2. French rules on roulette. La partage returns half of an even-money bet when the ball lands on zero, which halves the edge on those bets to 1.35%.
  3. The table limits. The minimum and maximum bet are on the info screen. A low maximum also stops progressive systems like the Martingale early.
  4. Side bets. Bonus bets such as Pair Plus or the baccarat Tie usually carry a much higher edge than the main bet.
  5. Your budget. Fast software tables deal many rounds an hour, so decide your limit first. See our responsible gambling page for tools that help.

How we checked this

  • House edges for blackjack, baccarat, craps, roulette, Casino Hold’em, Sic Bo and Three Card Poker: Gambling.com and VIP-Grinders. Where they differ on blackjack (about 0.5% and 0.72%), we give the range.
  • Ultimate Texas Hold’em: the Wizard of Odds (2.185% of the Ante) and Gambling.com (2.19%).
  • Casino Hold’em rules: Wikipedia and PokerNews.
  • The 1.35% French roulette figure is our own maths: half of the 2.70% European edge on even-money bets.

Last checked: 27 October 2026, when we checked each house edge on this page against two independent sources.

Online table games FAQs

Which online table game has the best odds?

Blackjack played with basic strategy at a 3:2 table, with a house edge of about 0.5% to 0.7%. The baccarat Banker bet (1.06%) and the craps Pass Line (1.41%) come next.

What is the easiest casino table game to learn?

Baccarat. You only choose Banker, Player or Tie, and the cards are drawn by fixed rules. Roulette is a close second.

Can I play table games online for free?

Yes, software versions can be played free in demo mode, including the roulette and Caribbean Stud Poker demos on this page. Live dealer tables are real money only.

Are online table games fair?

At licensed casinos, software tables use random number generators that are tested by independent labs. The house edge still applies to every bet, so no table can be beaten in the long run.

What is the difference between RNG and live table games?

RNG tables use software to deal and spin, so they are fast and can be played free. Live tables use a real dealer on a video stream, play more slowly and need real money.
