How Deadwood works
Wins pay across 576 ways on a 3-4-4-4-3 grid. Premium symbols include gold bars, a pocket watch, a money bag, whiskey and a revolver, with card ranks below them.
xNudge wilds and Shootout
xNudge wilds are 4-row symbols that land on reels 2, 3 and 4. If one lands partly off screen, it nudges into full view, and each nudge raises its multiplier by 1. When Sheriff Badges land on reels 1 and 5, the Shootout feature turns symbols on the middle reels into wilds.
Free spins modes
Three scatters let you choose between two 8-spin modes. Hunter Spins guarantee at least one xNudge wild on every spin. Gunslinger Spins add each xNudge multiplier to an overall multiplier that applies to all wins. Landing 3 scatters together with Sheriff Badges on reels 1 and 5 unlocks Shootout versions of both modes, with the Shootout feature always active.
Can you buy the Deadwood bonus?
Yes, where the casino and your country allow it, but sources differ on the price. SlotCatalog lists 71x your bet for the standard free spins and 750x for the Shootout version, while Sportsboom puts the Shootout buy at 71x. Check the price on the buy screen before you pay, and remember a buy does not guarantee a profit.
How often does Deadwood pay across its 576 ways?
Deadwood’s 576 ways come straight from the reel layout, and Nolimit City publishes a 40.17% hit rate. We used both, plus the two RTP versions, to show what a run of spins looks like.
- Ways: 3 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 3 = 576. Each way is one path from reel 1 to reel 5, using one symbol position on each reel.
- Hit rate: 40.17% means about 40 winning spins in every 100, on average.
- Losing runs: 59.83% of spins pay nothing. The chance of 5 losing spins in a row is 0.5983 to the power 5, about 7.7%. For 10 in a row it is about 0.59%.
The RTP version matters too. Over 1,000 spins, the long-run average loss is spins x stake x (1 – RTP):
| Stake per spin | Total staked | Average loss at 96.03% | Average loss at 94.15% |
|---|---|---|---|
| $0.20 | $200 | $7.94 | $11.70 |
| $1 | $1,000 | $39.70 | $58.50 |
| $5 | $5,000 | $198.50 | $292.50 |
The 94.15% version costs you about 47% more over the same spins. High volatility means real sessions land far from these averages.
Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| 13,950x max win | High volatility |
| Nudging wild multipliers | Bonus buys are expensive |
| Two free spins styles | Long dry spells are common |
| Strong Wild West presentation | Complex for beginners |
Tips
- Hunter Spins are the steadier choice; Gunslinger Spins are higher risk and higher reward.
- Think hard before paying for a bonus buy: it costs many times your stake.

How does Deadwood compare with other Wild West slots?
The Wild West is one of the most popular themes for high-volatility slots. Deadwood’s 13,950x top win puts it in the middle of the group: higher than Hacksaw’s famous shootout slot, but well below Relax Gaming’s Money Train 2.
| Slot | Provider | Volatility | RTP | Max win |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Deadwood | Nolimit City | High | 96.03% | 13,950x |
| Wanted Dead or a Wild | Hacksaw Gaming | Very high | 96.38% | 12,500x |
| Money Train 2 | Relax Gaming | High | 96.4% | 50,000x |
| Money Train | Relax Gaming | High | 96.2% | 20,000x |
Hunter Spins or Gunslinger Spins?
The two modes feel different. Hunter Spins put at least one xNudge wild on every spin, so action is spread across the bonus. Gunslinger Spins add each xNudge multiplier to an overall multiplier for all wins, so the bonus builds up and late spins matter most. The bonus buy, where allowed, is expensive and does not guarantee a profit, so most players are better off waiting for the feature. If you like Nolimit City’s style, see also Mental, its darker and more extreme release.
Where to play Deadwood
For real money we suggest 1win (9.9/10) first and BitStarz (9.5/10) second. Nolimit City games are not stocked everywhere, and bonus buys are switched off in some countries, so search the lobby for Deadwood before you deposit and check the info screen shows 96.03%. How we checked this
- Deadwood’s May 2020 release, 96.03% RTP, 13,950x max win and 576 ways on a 3-4-4-4-3 grid: Nolimit City and OLBG. The 40.17% hit rate: the same two sources.
- The 94.15% RTP version and the $0.20 to $100 bet range: SlotCatalog and Sportsboom. These two disagree on the bonus buy prices, so we show both.
- Our maths: the 576-ways count, the losing-run odds and the cost of 1,000 spins at each RTP version are our own calculation.
Last checked: 13 October 2026, when we worked out the ways, losing-run odds and RTP costs ourselves and checked the other figures against at least two independent sources.
