Quick answer: decide what you can afford to lose before you play, split it into sessions, and stop when the session budget or your time limit runs out, whichever comes first. The planner below turns your budget into a per-session limit and shows how long it lasts on average at your stakes. The second tool shows how many hours of play, and how much in stakes, a casino bonus really asks of you. Both are free, and we don’t store anything you type.
Gambling budget and session planner
Enter the amount you are happy to spend on gambling this month, the money you would treat as the cost of entertainment, not money for bills, rent or savings. Then add how often and how long you play, and your usual stake.
Averages only. Short-term results swing a lot, and you can lose your whole budget much faster than the average suggests.
How to use your plan
- Set it as a deposit limit. Most licensed casinos let you set daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits in your account. Set yours to your monthly budget so the decision is made before you play.
- Use a time reminder. Many casinos offer session reminders or reality checks. Turn them on, or set a phone alarm for your session length.
- Stop at your session budget. Don’t top up when it runs out. Chasing losses is how a budget turns into a problem.
- Treat wins as a bonus, not a bankroll. Consider withdrawing winnings rather than playing them back.
Spins or hands per hour: this varies a lot with the game and how fast you play, and autoplay is much faster. To get your own figure, count your spins over five minutes and multiply by 12.
What a casino bonus really costs in time and stakes
Bonuses look like free money, but the wagering requirement means a lot of play. This checker shows how long it would take to clear a bonus at your stake and speed, how many spins that is, and the average loss along the way. To see whether the bonus is worth anything at all, use our wagering requirement calculator.
Averages only. Short-term results swing a lot, and you can lose your whole budget much faster than the average suggests.
Example: €100 deposit with a 100% bonus
| Terms | Total to bet | Spins | Time at 300 spins/hour | Average loss (96% slot) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 35x bonus, €1 bets | €3,500 | 3,500 | 11h 40m | €140 |
| 35x bonus, €0.50 bets | €3,500 | 7,000 | 23h 20m | €140 |
| 35x deposit + bonus, €1 bets | €7,000 | 7,000 | 23h 20m | €280 |
| 10x bonus, €1 bets | €1,000 | 1,000 | 3h 20m | €40 |
Smaller bets don’t make wagering cheaper on average: you still bet the same total, it just takes twice as long. Lower wagering is the only thing that really reduces the cost.
Signs it is time to take a break
- You go over your budget or play for longer than planned.
- You chase losses, or borrow money to gamble.
- You feel anxious, irritable or low when you are not gambling.
- You hide your gambling from family or friends.
- Gambling gets in the way of work, sleep or relationships.
If any of these sound familiar, take a break now. Use your casino’s time-out or self-exclusion tools, block gambling sites, and talk to someone.

Gambling budget FAQ
How much should I spend on gambling?
Only money you can afford to lose without it affecting bills, savings or your plans. We can’t set a number for you, but a fixed monthly amount, decided in advance and set as a deposit limit, is the safest way to keep gambling as entertainment.
How long will my gambling budget last?
On average, your budget lasts about: budget ÷ (bet size × spins per hour × house edge). At €1 a spin, 300 spins an hour on a 96% slot, that is about €12 an hour, so €25 lasts around two hours on average. In practice it can run out much faster, especially on high-volatility slots.
What is a stop-loss in gambling?
A set amount you agree to lose before you stop playing for the day or session. Our planner uses your session budget as your stop-loss.
Do online casinos offer budget tools?
Most licensed casinos offer deposit limits, session reminders, time-outs and self-exclusion in your account settings. If a casino doesn’t offer any, that is a reason to play elsewhere.
Does this tool save my information?
No. Everything is worked out in your browser, and nothing you enter is stored or sent to us.
Check your local laws before you play
Online gambling laws differ from country to country, and in some places it is restricted or not permitted. Check that online gambling is legal where you live. You must be 18 or older (or the legal age where you live, if higher).
