Quick verdict: Mental is Nolimit City’s extreme, high-volatility slot set in a disturbing asylum. It’s packed with features, from splitting symbols to huge multipliers, and has three free spins modes and a 66,666x top win. With an RTP of about 96.1% and very high variance, it’s strictly for experienced players with a budget to match. Its graphic theme also won’t suit everyone.

How Mental works
The unusual 3-2-3-2-3 grid can grow as features add extra ways to win. On any spin, Fire Frames can appear on the reels and split symbols in two, while enhancer cells on reels 2 and 4 can add wilds, expand ways (xWays) or split symbols (xSplit). Premium “patient” symbols can carry large multipliers.
Free spins modes
Bonus symbols unlock one of three free spins rounds, from the entry-level Autopsy Spins to the most powerful Mental Spins, each with stronger features. In countries that allow it, you can also buy entry to the bonuses at a fixed price.
Is Mental a high RTP slot?
Not especially. The standard version returns about 96.1%: Nolimit City lists 96.08% and SlotCatalog 96.09%, and casinos can run lower versions. Volatility is high, and Nolimit City rates it extreme, so you can go a long time with little return while the top win is 66,666x. Treat it as entertainment with a strict budget.
How long can you wait for free spins in Mental?
Nolimit City and SlotCatalog both put Mental’s free spins at 1 in 216 spins on average, with 34.19% of spins paying something. We used those two published figures to work out what a normal wait looks like.
| Spins played | Chance of no free spins yet | Chance of at least one trigger |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | 62.9% | 37.1% |
| 216 | 36.7% | 63.3% |
| 500 | 9.8% | 90.2% |
| 1,000 | 1.0% | 99.0% |
The working: each spin has a 1 in 216 chance, so the chance of missing on all of n spins is (215 ÷ 216) to the power n. After 216 spins, the average gap, more than 1 player in 3 (36.7%) is still waiting.
The long-run cost of 216 spins is 216 x stake x (1 – 0.9608). That is about $1.69 at $0.20 a spin, $8.47 at $1 and $42.34 at $5. Real sessions swing far wider than these averages, in both directions.
The 34.19% hit rate also means about 2 spins in 3 (65.81%) pay nothing. The chance of 10 losing spins in a row is 0.6581 to the power 10, about 1.5%.
Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Huge 66,666x max win | Extreme volatility |

| Bonus buy options | Lower RTP versions exist |
Tips
- Play the demo first to understand the features.
- Use small stakes: high variance can drain a balance fast.
- Be cautious with bonus buys, which can cost up to 1,000x your bet.
- If you prefer calmer games, see our Starburst review.

How to approach a slot like Mental
Treat Mental as entertainment with a lottery-style top prize. Most spins and many bonuses pay little, so decide your budget and stop point before you start, and use the smallest stake that still feels fun. Try the free-play demo first to see how the three free spins modes differ. Avoid chasing losses with the bonus buy: it costs many times your stake and does not guarantee a return. Our gambling budget calculator helps you set limits, and our high volatility slots guide explains the risk.
Where to play Mental
Our highest-rated casino is 1win (9.9/10), and it paid our crypto withdrawal in 15 minutes. BitStarz (9.5/10) is a solid backup. Nolimit City games are not stocked everywhere, and the bonus buy is switched off in some countries, so search the lobby before you deposit and check the info screen shows about 96.1%. How we checked this
- Mental’s August 2021 release, 66,666x max win, $0.20 to $70 bets, 34.19% hit rate and 1 in 216 free spins rate: Nolimit City and SlotCatalog.
- The RTP differs slightly between the two (96.08% at Nolimit City, 96.09% at SlotCatalog), so we give about 96.1%. Bonus buys from 80x to 1,000x your bet: the same two sources.
- Our maths: the free spins wait chances, the cost of 216 spins and the losing-run odds are our own calculation from the published rates.
Last checked: 13 October 2026, when we worked out the free spins wait and its cost ourselves and matched every other figure to at least two outside sources.
