Quick answer: this bet calculator works out the return on any bet, from a single to a 247-bet Goliath, win only or each way. Example: a £1 Lucky 15 costs £15. With winners at 2/1, 3/1 and 6/4 and one loser, it returns £69.00, a £54.00 profit. Enter your own odds and results to see what your bet slip pays.
Your selections
Returns include your stake. The calculator doesn’t add bookmaker bonuses or consolations, Rule 4 deductions, dead heats or maximum-payout limits, so check your bet slip and your bookmaker’s rules.
How to use the bet calculator
- Pick your bet type. Singles, doubles, trebles and accumulators up to 8 folds are single bets. Trixie, Patent, Yankee, Lucky 15, Canadian, Lucky 31, Heinz, Lucky 63, Super Heinz and Goliath are full-cover bets that combine your selections into many bets.
- Enter your stake. Choose “Per bet” if your bookmaker asked for a unit stake (for example £1 a line) or “Total” to split one amount across every bet.
- Turn on each way if you need it. Each selection then gets its own place terms, such as 1/4 or 1/5 of the odds.
- Type the odds and pick each result. Fractional odds such as 5/2 or Evs, or decimal odds such as 3.50. Mark each selection Won, Placed (each way only), Lost or Void / NR for a non-runner.
- Read the return. The screen shows the total return, your total stake, the profit and how many bets paid. The table breaks it down into singles, doubles, trebles and bigger folds.
How many bets are in a Lucky 15, Yankee or Heinz?
A Lucky 15 is 15 bets on 4 selections, a Yankee is 11 bets on 4 selections and a Heinz is 57 bets on 6 selections. Full-cover bets that include singles (Patent, Lucky 15, Lucky 31 and Lucky 63) give you something back with one winner; the others start at doubles and need at least two winners for a return.
| Bet type | Selections | Bets | Made up of | Cost at £1 a bet (each way) |

| Trixie | 3 | 4 | 3 doubles, 1 treble | £4 (£8) |
| Patent | 3 | 7 | 3 singles, 3 doubles, 1 treble | £7 (£14) |

| Lucky 15 | 4 | 15 | 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles, 1 four-fold | £15 (£30) |
| Canadian (Super Yankee) | 5 | 26 | 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four-folds, 1 five-fold | £26 (£52) |
| Lucky 31 | 5 | 31 | 5 singles + the 26 bets of a Canadian | £31 (£62) |

| Super Heinz | 7 | 120 | 21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 four-folds, 21 five-folds, 7 six-folds, 1 seven-fold | £120 (£240) |
| Goliath | 8 | 247 | 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 four-folds, 56 five-folds, 28 six-folds, 8 seven-folds, 1 eight-fold | £247 (£494) |
How does the bet calculator work out returns?
Every bet pays its stake multiplied by the decimal odds of each selection in it. Fractional odds turn into decimal odds by dividing and adding 1: 5/2 is 2.5 + 1 = 3.50, and Evens is 2.00. A full-cover bet is just the sum of all its smaller bets.
Take the example at the top: a £1 Lucky 15 with winners at 2/1 (3.00), 3/1 (4.00) and 6/4 (2.50), and one loser.
- Singles: £3.00 + £4.00 + £2.50 = £9.50 (the losing single pays nothing).
- Doubles: the three doubles between the winners pay £12.00 (3 × 4), £7.50 (3 × 2.5) and £10.00 (4 × 2.5) = £29.50.
- Trebles: only the treble of the three winners pays: 3 × 4 × 2.5 = £30.00.
- Four-fold: loses, because it includes the loser.
- Total: £9.50 + £29.50 + £30.00 = £69.00 back from £15.00, a profit of £54.00.

Acca, Yankee or Lucky 15: which pays more?
It depends on how many of your picks win. An accumulator pays the most when everything wins and nothing otherwise. A Lucky 15 pays far less on a clean sweep but still returns something when one or two selections let you down. Here is £15 on four selections, all at 2/1:
| Winners | £15 four-fold acca | £1 Lucky 15 (£15) | £1.36 Yankee (£15) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 of 4 | £1,215.00 | £255.00 | £331.36 |
| 3 of 4 | £0 | £63.00 | £73.64 |
| 2 of 4 | £0 | £15.00 | £12.27 |
| 1 of 4 | £0 | £3.00 | £0 |
In this example the Lucky 15 gets your stake back with two winners, while the Yankee needs three to make a profit. If you only expect one or two winners, singles and doubles usually cost less than a full-cover bet. Bookmakers often add Lucky 15 extras, such as a bonus when every selection wins; terms vary, so the calculator leaves them out.
How do each-way bets work in a multiple?
An each-way bet is two bets of the same stake: one for your selection to win and one for it to place. So a £1 each-way Yankee is 22 bets and costs £22. The win bets work as normal. The place bets pay at a fraction of the odds, usually 1/4 or 1/5, for every selection that won or placed. If a selection wins, both parts pay.
Example: a £1 each-way Yankee at 1/4 the odds, with 2/1 and 6/4 winners, a 3/1 shot placed and a 5/2 loser. The win part pays only the one double between the two winners: £7.50. The place part pays the three doubles and one treble between the three placed horses, at 1.50, 1.75 and 1.375: £10.70. Total £18.20 back from £22, a loss of £3.80.
Standard each-way place terms
| Runners | Places paid | Place odds |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 4 | Win only | – |
| 5 to 7 | 2 | 1/4 the odds |
| 8 or more | 3 | 1/5 the odds |
| 12 to 15 (handicap) | 3 | 1/4 the odds |
| 16 or more (handicap) | 4 | 1/4 the odds |
For one each-way bet with dead heats or Rule 4 deductions, use our each way calculator.
What happens if a selection is void or a non-runner?
The bet stands on the other selections. A void or non-runner counts as odds of 1.00, so your stake rolls on to the rest of the bet: a treble with one non-runner becomes a double and a single on a non-runner returns your stake. Mark it “Void / NR” in the calculator. Late withdrawals can also bring Rule 4 deductions on the remaining horses, which this calculator doesn’t apply.

How we checked this
The calculator does its own maths: each bet pays the stake times the decimal odds of its selections, with void selections at 1.00 and place parts at the chosen fraction of the odds. We checked it against hand-worked examples for every bet type, including a full Goliath.
- Bet types, numbers of bets and how they are made up: Racing Post: types of bets and Sporting Life: glossary of bets. How many winners each bet needs for a return: Racing Post and OLBG.
- Each-way bets as two equal stakes, and the standard place terms: Sporting Life and Oddschecker.
- Multiples standing on the remaining selections after a void or non-runner: Sporting Life: accumulator guide and Covers: why bets are voided.
- Costs, the worked examples and the acca vs Lucky 15 vs Yankee table are our own maths.

Bet calculator FAQs
How much does a £1 Lucky 15 cost?
£15, because it is 15 bets of £1. Each way it costs £30, since every bet has a win part and a place part.
How many winners do I need for a Yankee to pay?
At least two, because a Yankee has no singles: its smallest bets are doubles. A Lucky 15 on the same four selections pays with one winner.
What is the difference between a Lucky 15 and a Yankee?
Both use four selections. A Yankee is 11 bets (6 doubles, 4 trebles and a four-fold). A Lucky 15 adds the 4 singles, making 15 bets.
How do I work out an each-way Lucky 15?
Treat it as 30 bets: 15 win bets at the full odds and 15 place bets at the place fraction of the odds, such as 1/4. The calculator adds both parts for you when you choose “Yes, each way”.
What is a Goliath bet?
A full-cover bet on 8 selections: 247 bets from 28 doubles up to one eight-fold. At £1 a bet it costs £247, or £494 each way.
Does the bet calculator include Rule 4 or bookmaker bonuses?
No. It shows the standard return. Rule 4 deductions, dead heats, Lucky 15 bonuses and maximum-payout limits depend on your bookmaker, so check your bet slip.
