How do the multiplier wilds work?
Sheriff badge wilds land only on reels 2 to 5 and replace every pay symbol except the scatter. Each one carries a random x2, x3 or x5 multiplier. When two or more of them help the same win, their multipliers are multiplied together, so an x5 and an x3 make x15 rather than x8.
That is the biggest change from the original Wild West Gold, where the wild multipliers on a line are added together.
How do the free spins work?
Three or more scatters start the bonus. However many land, you get 7 free spins:
| Part | What happens |
|---|---|
| Scatter pay | 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters pay 4x, 20x, 100x or 500x your stake |
| Free spins | 7, whatever the number of scatters |
| Sticky wilds | Every wild that lands stays in place, with its multiplier, until the round ends |
| Extra spins | 2 to 6 gold star overlays on the reels add 2 to 6 more spins |
Because the wilds stay and their multipliers keep multiplying together, the round builds as it goes: a few early wilds can turn later spins into big multiplied wins.
What is the max win on Wild West Gold Megaways?
5,000x your stake. The top character symbols pay only about 1x your stake for six of a kind, so the big wins come from several multiplier wilds sticking in place during the free spins.
Wild West Gold Megaways vs Wild West Gold
The original game came out in March 2020. Both have sheriff badge wilds that stick in free spins, but the details differ:
| Feature | Wild West Gold | Wild West Gold Megaways |
|---|---|---|
| Released | March 2020 | May 2022 |
| Layout | 5×4, 40 paylines | 6 reels, up to 117,649 ways |
| RTP | 96.51% | 96.44% |
| Volatility | High | High |
| Max win | 10,000x on most sites | 5,000x |
| Wild multipliers | x2, x3 or x5, added together on a line | x2, x3 or x5, multiplied together |
| Free spins | 8 spins, gold stars add 4 to 20 more | 7 spins, gold stars add 2 to 6 more |
The original has the higher ceiling; the Megaways version swaps paylines for changing reels and stronger multiplier stacking. Read our Wild West Gold review for the first game.
Tips for playing Wild West Gold Megaways
- Two wilds in one win are worth far more here than in the original, because x5 and x5 make x25 rather than x10.
- The free spins are short at 7 spins, so the gold star overlays that add 2 to 6 more spins matter a lot.
- The ante bet adds 25% to your stake and raises the chance of triggering free spins; work out whether your budget covers the higher cost first.
- Check the info screen shows 96.44%; casinos can run the 95.35% or 94.32% versions.
