Quick answer: the most common Powerball numbers since the game switched to its current format in October 2015 are 21, 61, 64, 28 and 32. White ball 21 has been drawn 128 times in 1,423 draws. The most common red Powerball is 14, drawn 68 times, followed by 4, 21 and 24. We counted every draw ourselves from the official results file. But every Powerball draw is random, so these numbers are no more likely to come up next time than any others.
The 10 most common Powerball numbers
These are the white balls drawn most often in the 1,423 Powerball draws from 7 October 2015 to 21 October 2026. Five white balls are drawn from 1 to 69 each time, so each number would come up about 103 times on average.
| Rank | White ball | Times drawn | Drawn in % of draws |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 21 | 128 | 9.0% |
| 2 | 61 | 126 | 8.9% |
| 3 | 64 | 125 | 8.8% |
| 4 | 28 | 121 | 8.5% |
| 5 | 32 | 120 | 8.4% |
| 6 | 23 | 119 | 8.4% |
| 7 (tie) | 27, 33 and 36 | 118 each | 8.3% |

The most common red Powerball numbers
The red Powerball is drawn separately, from 1 to 26, so each number would come up about 55 times in 1,423 draws.
| Rank | Red Powerball | Times drawn |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 14 | 68 |
| 2 | 4 | 66 |
| 3 (tie) | 21 and 24 | 63 each |
| 5 (tie) | 18 and 20 | 62 each |

The least common Powerball numbers
- White balls drawn least often: 13 (78 times), 26 (83), 46 and 49 (84 each) and 34 (85).
- Red Powerballs drawn least often: 16 (40 times), 17 (45), 8 (46), 15 (47), and 7, 12 and 22 (48 each).
So the gap between the most and least common white ball is 128 against 78. That looks big, but as we explain below, it is the kind of gap that pure chance produces.
Most common Powerball numbers in the last 12 months
In the 157 draws from 22 October 2025 to 21 October 2026, the white balls drawn most often were 28, 58 and 64 (17 times each), then 3, 18, 21, 57 and 59 (16 each). The most common red Powerball was 23 (12 times), then 14 (11) and 1 (10).
Short periods jump around much more than the long-run counts. In 157 draws, each white ball would come up about 11 times on average, so a few numbers reaching 16 or 17 is normal.
Overdue Powerball numbers
Some numbers haven’t been drawn for a while. Up to the draw of 21 October 2026, white ball 43 had not come up for 45 draws, 60 for 33 draws, and 66 for 30 draws. Red Powerball 21 had gone 95 draws without appearing, although it is the third most common red ball since 2015.
“Overdue” doesn’t mean “due”. The balls have no memory, so a number that hasn’t appeared for 95 draws has exactly the same chance in the next draw as one that came up last time. Expecting otherwise is the gambler’s fallacy.
Are the most common Powerball numbers more likely to win?
No. Every Powerball draw is random and independent, so each white ball has the same 5-in-69 chance of being drawn, and each red ball a 1-in-26 chance, in every draw. The counts above describe the past; they don’t predict the next draw.
Our maths backs this up. With 1,423 draws, a fair draw gives each white ball about 103 appearances, give or take about 10. Across 69 numbers, it is normal for a few to land 20 to 25 above or below that, which is exactly what we see (78 to 128). We also ran a standard chi-square test on our counts. It found no sign that any number comes up more than chance would allow: the result was 0.17 for the white balls and 0.51 for the red balls, where anything above 0.05 means the spread looks like normal luck.
How to pick Powerball numbers
Any set of numbers has the same jackpot odds: 1 in 292,201,338 for each $2 play, according to Powerball and the California Lottery. That is true whether you choose the most common numbers, the least common ones, a birthday, or a Quick Pick. Our lottery odds calculator shows the odds for every prize tier and how much more you would spend to improve them.
If you play, set a budget you are happy to lose and stick to it. And if you ever do win big, our gambling winnings tax calculator shows how much tax you would pay and compares the lump sum with the annuity.
How we counted the numbers
- Data: the New York Lottery’s official Powerball winning numbers file on NY Open Data, also listed on Data.gov. We downloaded it on 24 October 2026; the newest draw in it was 21 October 2026.
- Draws counted: all 1,423 main Powerball draws from 7 October 2015, the first draw with today’s 5-from-69 white balls and 1-from-26 red ball (NBC, Talk of the Sound, Boston Globe). Older draws used different ball ranges, so mixing them in would distort the counts.
- Draw days: Powerball has been drawn on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays since the first Monday draw on 23 August 2021 (Powerball, Public Gaming).
- Not counted: Double Play results, a separate add-on drawing that uses the same numbers as your Powerball play (Powerball).
- We checked the file for missing draws, repeated numbers and out-of-range balls, and found none. The counts, the 12-month figures, the overdue figures and the chi-square test are our own maths.
Last checked: 24 October 2026, when we downloaded the official New York Lottery Powerball results file and counted every main draw from 7 October 2015 to 21 October 2026 ourselves. Every draw is random, so no number is luckier than another. Gambling is for adults (18+) only. If it stops being fun, see our responsible gambling guide.
